Grown for a calm night tea

Reishi is the mushroom people simmer at night. It has a long history as a tea for winding down, stamina, and daily balance. The slices are bitter on purpose. You grow the mushroom, dry it, and brew it yourself — a cup that belongs at the end of the day.

A ready-to-grow block on organic hardwood, made and checked in Carthage. Leave the bag closed for antlers, or open it for a red shelf. Weeks, not days. Then slice, dry, and simmer.

The 30-day promise covers a healthy, uncontaminated, living block — not a finished conk on day 12.

Why people drink reishi at night

What it can add

Reishi is one of the oldest tea mushrooms. People brew it in the evening for a slow, bitter cup tied to calm and daily balance. The bitterness comes from natural compounds in the mushroom. Honey or ginger makes it easier to drink.

Grow it and make it yourself

We grow this block on organic hardwood in Carthage and check it before it ships. You wait, harvest, slice, and dry it. Then you simmer your own tea. You make the cup. You know what went in it.

How to use it

This is tea, not a stir-fry. Harvest when the white edge stops growing. Slice thin, dry until it snaps, simmer 45–90 minutes, strain. Do not expect mushrooms in the first week.

What people look for

The bitterness is triterpenes. The tea also carries beta-glucans. Traditional use (lingzhi) is a slow evening cup for winding down and daily balance. Slice, dry, simmer, strain. A night tea is a ritual. It is not a sleeping pill, and it is not a medicine.

What you are actually growing

High CO2 in a sealed bag makes antlers. Fresh air and light make the red shelf. You choose the shape. The tea is the same. Patience is the method.

Easier than oysters if you can wait. Mark the calendar in months, not days.

How to fruit this block

1

Decide: antlers or conk

Antlers: leave sealed. Conk: open after a firm white bump, then humidity and air.

2

Warm, not hot

70–80°F, out of direct sun. Do not mist a sealed bag.

3

Wait for the varnish

White to yellow to red lacquer. Weeks.

4

Harvest when the cream edge stops

Woody, no growing margin. Slice and dry.

Harvest

⅛-inch slices, dry until they snap. Jar, out of light.

After the last flush

Usually one primary harvest. Then compost.

In the kitchen

Decoction only. 1–2 tablespoons dried slices, 3–4 cups water, 45–90 minutes. Strain.

A first recipe

Evening reishi decoction

If something looks wrong
